Belize Blood Donation Requirements

Have you ever think of donating blood, well here are requirements that you need to meet to be able to donate blood.




Blood Donations

  • Blood can be donated by persons 18 - 65 years old and weighing at least 110 pounds
  • One pint (approx. 450 cc) is collected at every donation
  • Blood can be donated every three (3) months
  • Donated blood can be stored for thirty-five (35) days
  • Each blood donation is performed using sterile techniques and all needles used are new and then destroyed
  • A donor cannot get HIV or any other disease while donating blood
  • All blood donated is tested for HIV, Chagas, Hepatitis B, Malaria and Syphilis before they are transfused

Who cannot donate blood

  • A person who has had Hepatitis on or after the age of eleven (11)
  • A person who has had Malaria in the past two (2) years
  • A person in the moment of donation who is ill
  • A person suffering permanently from:
    • Asthma, Rheumatic Fever
    • Hypertension
    • Goitre
    • Heart Disease
    • Stroke
    • Epilepsy (Seizures)
    • Diabetes
    • Brucellosis
    • Blood Disease
    • Cancer
    • HIV/AIDS
  • Within one year after
    Major surgery, transfusion of blood and blood products, pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion or cesarean-section
  • Within one week after menstruation
  • Within twelve (12) months after a tattoo
