The purpose of the project is as follows:

  • Revise and update the Forests Act, Chapter 213 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2011 and its Subsidiary Laws, Revised Edition 2011 to promote long-term conservation, management and sustainable use of the Forest Resources of Belize.

 

Qualifications and skills

  • Social sciences at least at the BSc. Level.
  • Knowledge of the environment and forest sectors, the communal land rights issue, natural resource management/extractive social issues in Belize.
  • Knowledge of Maya Q’eqchi’, Mopan, and/or Yucatec Maya would be an advantage.

 

General Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in the environment and forest sector, the communal land rights issue, natural resource management/extractive social issues in Belize.

 

Specific Experience

  • Experience with participatory methodologies, including facilitation/negotiation and proven experience collecting and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience in the design and conduct of surveys at the community level and with the design and conduct of consultations at the community level, developing materials that can be used for explaining the purpose and scope of this activity in general terms, and specifically at consultation events.
