If you live in Belize or visiting long term, it may be necessary to renew your passport while outside the United States.  Fortunately, the embassy in Belmopan make the process fairly simple, and it can be completed in a few weeks (the expedited process is not available outside the United States).  The steps below outline most of what you need to do to complete the process.

The steps needed to get a new United States passport in Belize can be found on the US Embassy website. However, a summarized version of those instructions can be found below:

  • First, go to this website.
  • Check "I have read the Privacy and Computer Fraud and Abuse Acts Notices and Disclaimers." and click submit. Find the section that says "Complete Online & Print" and click submit under that. Then fill out the various sections to get a pdf of your application form. Print out the pdf on single-sided paper.
  • After that, go here and click "make appointment." Check the section for passport services and that you have read the instructions. After that, click on the date on the calendar you wish to meet to get a new passport.
  • On the appointment day go to the embassy (Google Maps of the embassy) with the fees required for the passport, proof of identity, proof of US citizenship, and recent passport-photos. You will need originals and photocopies.
  • After that, you should receive an email in the future that you can pick up your passport. You can do so from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

If you need additional information feel free to contact the embassy directly at 822-4011 or visit the website for more information
